July 10, 2017 CVV Revised our budget for the next 4 months. Because CVV is ever mindful of our generous supporters, we had to make the tough decision to remain financially responsible. Our monthly “Direct Veterans Services” budget went from $5,500 per month to $1,550 per month.
You may be asking, “How did that happen?”, “Why was the budget so far out of line?”. both good questions. As you know, we hold one primary fundraising event per year in November, the “Star Spangled Ball” raised just under $40,000 last year. That funding was used as you, the supporters pledged. Hospitality House repairs and needs received the majority of those funds. CVV has also pledged our support to 2 major veteran events each year. The Stand Down and the Woman’s Stand Up. These annual events have received grants in past years. This year, the funding was depleted prior to our grant application being received. Other non-profits in the area that offer veteran assistance through government grants have depleted their resources earlier than usual which created more demand on CVV’s budget for direct veterans services in the last 2 months.
How will CVV move forward with these commitments?
With careful management of our current resources and cutting back where every possible.
Reassessment of our “Top 5” priorities for granting requests. 1) Housing/Rental assistance, 2) Utility payments, 3) Auto repairs/registrations. 4) Food, 5) Professional License fees.
It will not be an easy task, but we will continue to seek donations and sponsorships throughout the year. We understand that our supporters have many options for donating their discretionary funds and we deeply appreciate you allowing CVV to be the recipient of those dollars.
CVV wants to keep you informed and involved in our non-profit. CVV has a strong reputation within the Veteran community which we are extremely proud of. Since we revisited our budget and made the adjustments, we have denied veteran requests. As you might imagine, it was difficult, having to tell a Veteran we simply can fund your need at this time.
